This set of Schumann orchestral
music was issued in 1956 by EMI-Columbia on three individual LPs
(Columbia 33CX 1419; 33CX 1449; 33CX 1475) in commemoration of
the Centenary of Schumann's death. Recording sessions took place
from mid-February to mid-March, 1956 in Tel Aviv and were produced
and supervised by Lawrence Collingwood, the British conductor
and composer.
The famed critic and author, Harold C. Schonberg, in his review
published in the May 1957 issue of High Fidelity magazine, wrote:
Kletzki follows the score closely, outlining the elements clearly.
No better performance is available on LP. This series of Schumann
symphonies has a natural, silky sound with a real orchestral balance.
In 1957, the Gramophone Critic Trevor Harvey described this recording
as first-rate... superbly played... bursting with freshness
and vitality... dramatic... a real winner... could scarcely be
bettered... Kletzki is excellent... and at home with Schumann's
music.
